Concerned about your hearing?  Hearing loss can occur at any age.  When suspected
in infants, special testing can be arranged to determine whether a child can hear, even
before a newborn leaves the hospital.  Office audiometry (hearing testing) can be
accurately performed once a patient reaches about 3 years of age.  Tympanometry
is another test routinely performed in the office to measure Eustacian Tube function.
Problems with the Eustacian Tube can occur due to infection, allergies, air travel, diving,
or trauma.  Tympanometry helps the Doctor to determine whether the ear is properly
equalizing it's pressure, and also whether there is or isn't fluid behind the ear drum.
Persistent fluid in the middle ear can prompt short or long term medical treatment, and
if ineffective over time, can prompt the recommendation for tube placement, a minor
surgical procedure.

All of these tests help to take the guesswork out of making a proper diagnosis, and that
can make the difference between effective treatment, and weeks or months of problems.

The standard Audiogram is a proper test of your hearing.  In our office, the testing is
performed in a soundproof booth so as to ensure accuracy.  Our equipment is calibrated
regularly, and meets ANSI and OSHA standards, and allows for an complete and accurate
characterization of type and amount of hearing loss.  These tests also assist in the
assessment of tinnitus (ear ringing), and vertigo (dizziness). (continued on next page)
